Pico mountain is the highest point in Portugal and its conical shape is the most evident mark of the volcanic origin of the island it is named after.
Its geological richness, the particularities of its vegetation, adapted to the mountain’s adverse conditions, associated with its exuberant landscape, from where you can enjoy the immensity of the oceans and see the islands of the central group of the Azores Archipelago, make Pico one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the world.
It is often covered with snow in winter and is the biggest attraction of this black basalt island, with which the walls of the vineyard corrals were built, currently Pico’s Vineyard Protected Landscape and a UNESCO Heritage Site.
